Arne Slot has addressed Liverpool’s major summer overhaul.

Liverpool have completed the signing of Giovanni Leoni from Parma, taking their summer spending to around £320m.

The 18-year-old, who has signed a contract until 2031, will be at Anfield on Friday night when the Reds host Bournemouth.

Leoni becomes the club’s eighth summer addition after Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Armin Pecsi, Freddie Woodman (free), Hugo Ekitike, and Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Liverpool’s total outlay includes add-ons, offset by more than £190m generated from player sales, with Trent Alexander-Arnold (£10m), Jarell Quansah (£35m), Caoimhin Kelleher (£18m), Nat Phillips (£3m), Tyler Morton (£15m), Luis Diaz (£65.5m) and Darwin Nunez (£46m) all departing.

Speaking to Sky Sports pre-match, Arne Slot said: “If a lot of players go, it’s normal to replace them.

“Otherwise we would have used the Under-18s today, that would have not been smart.

“Now we are really happy?

We have lost a few very good players as well, a lot of players we have brought in our special.

“Trent’s passing ability was probably the best from a full-back we have seen in the Premier League

That was the main strength for Trent – it’s not the strength of Bradley and Frimpong.

“What they do have is the one-v-one threat, that’s what makes it difficult for the other team.”

The Dutchman also touched on the side’s readiness, saying: “I think far better than I expected five or six weeks ago.

“At that moment of time you feel, will it ever be possible to play again or will it ever be possible to get them going again?

“But as I said many times, they have conducted themselves so, so, so well in that period of time since we first heard the news [about Diogo Jota and Andre Silva].

“And afterwards I think on both sides they were great; as a human being but they also understood that we had to be professional football players again, so we had to work hard and that’s what they started doing.”
