And, even though Liverpool may have missed out on Marc Guehi this summer after Crystal Palace pulled out of the deal, that doesn’t mean that Slot hasn’t got a trick or two up his sleeves.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES

Although Jones has been left out of Slot’s starting XI for players such as Alexis Mac Allister and Wirtz this season, when he was brought on against the Gunners, he once again proved why Liverpool are keeping him around.

Indeed, Jones may not be the most prolific of players within Slot’s first-team squad, but the fact that he puts in as much effort as possible, no matter how little or how long he plays, is a testament to the player he is.

Indeed, he’s likely to start the odd game here and there, but since the Reds have talent such as Wirtz and Szoboszlai among their ranks, it feels like there’s plenty of room for Jones to be brought in as a central midfielder.

Liverpool’s main goals this season will be to retain the Premier League title and perhaps even win the Champions League, which means that if they want to be at their best, all their players need regular rest.

And, with the vast majority of the Reds’ squad having a point to prove about their futures at Anfield, Slot needs to broaden his horizons and perhaps give those on the outside of his regular starting XI more of a look in.
