Arne Slot insists Trent Alexander-Arnold deserves to be part of Liverpool's Premier League title celebrations this weekend - as he detailed the frank discussions held with the departing defender last summer.
The Reds will be handed the trophy after Sunday's home game against Crystal Palace before a parade of the city the following day during which around a million people are expected to line the streets.
Alexander-Arnold was given a hostile reception by some supporters during the home game against Arsenal a fortnight ago, which was the first match since the 26-year-old confirmed he would leave when his contract expires at the end of the season with Real Madrid expected to be his next destination.
Slot opted not to use the right-back from the bench during the 3-2 defeat at Brighton on Monday and has yet to determine whether the England international will be handed minutes on Sunday.

But the Liverpool boss is adamant nothing should be allowed to overshadow the celebrations of the club lifting a record-equalling 20th championship.
“I haven’t decided on that one yet but I think this should be a day that everybody is going to enjoy," said Slot.
"It has been 35 years everyone – Liverpool fans - has been waiting for this moment and we have set the example against Tottenham.
I don’t think I have ever been part of a celebration in a nicer way than that day.
"One of the things that make me emotional is how we arrived at the stadium when the fans were singing and the second one is I have met multiple people in the last few weeks who have told me 'I have been going to Anfield for all my life but I have never felt a more special day than that one, Tottenham at home' so I am hoping we can add a moment like this to it.

"Everyone in the stadium deserves to be there, the fans, the staff but also the players – and one of my players is Trent so he definitely deserves to be there as well as because he has been part of an incredibly successful season and incredibly successful years at this club.
"I can only hope we do it one more time over like we did at Tottenham and I have a lot of trust in our fans that we can do it again."
Slot has revealed having held discussions with Alexander-Arnold over the situation, which has caused a split between Liverpool supporters over the manner of the defender's imminent exit.
"Yes, I am talking to him and I think that is the biggest difference between me and all the ones that have a purple bin," said the Liverpool head coach.
"I speak to the human being Trent Alexander-Arnold every day and that combined with winning something together creates a different bond than maybe the fans have with him.
"I do talk to him quite a lot, although when we started pre-season he was quite a lot in my office for other reasons and now he is my office a few times as well."
Elaborating on those summer conversations, Slot added: “Mo (Salah) has said already a few things about why he was in my office pre-season and there were similar reasons why Trent was in my office at the beginning of the season.
"Maybe he said it himself – but he's going to leave either way so why tell it?!
In my opinion in certain moments he could do a bit more, to say it mildly.
"That is what we talked about, combined that I said to him 'You are a much better defender than everyone tells you, unfortunately you don’t show it all the time' and that is why people sometimes tell you it is a part of a game you need to improve.
"If you are just at it and you are focused and concentrated there are not many players who can go around him because he is fast, agile, he has great mentality.

"It is about showing it every single game because in this world we are judged not only on the 34 games we do well we are mainly judged on the four games we don't do so well.
