Liverpool’s twenty-six unbeaten run in the Premier League ended on Sunday after Fulham beat them 3-2 at Craven Cottage.
After a hard-fought Merseyside Derby win in the week, full of passion and resilience, the Reds failed to replicate that on a sun-drenched day in West London.
A disjointed showing from Liverpool’s backline allowed Fulham to win the game in the first half.
Despite this, the Premier League title seems destined to return to Liverpool as the club still boasts an eleven-point lead heading into the final seven league games of the season.
Claims have been made that complacency and fatigue have played a significant role in Liverpool taking their foot off the gas.
Arne Slot has now revealed the main reason that he believes led to Liverpool’s defeat.
The Dutchman said: “I think there I no reason for us to be complacent.
Everyone that has seen our games [knows] it takes us so much effort, so much hard work to win games of football, combined with quality of course.”
“In general, we are not making any of these errors, let alone three in one game.
The second half was so much better than the first, but it is hard to win a game of football at this level if you concede three goals like this.”
Liverpool’s defeat at Fulham means that they have now lost three out of their last four matches in all competitions, as they found themselves on the losing side in the Champions League and the Carabao Cup in March, surrendering two pieces of silverware in the process.
Despite this, Liverpool have shown remarkable form throughout the majority of the season, with Sunday’s defeat the Reds’ first away defeat of the season.
Liverpool will look to bounce back with a statement performance against West Ham at Anfield this Sunday, as the Premier League run-in continues to heat up.
They have been aided by the fixture schedule as well, potentially handing them an advantage over title rivals Arsenal.
Liverpool will have a rare seven-day rest period between league fixtures, whilst Arsenal have to play twice during that time due to their ongoing commitment in the Champions League.
