The Magpies, still without Alexander Isak amid his high-profile exit saga, drew 0-0 with Aston Villa on matchday one.
Arne Slot must decide whether to start Dominik Szoboszlai at right-back with Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong unavailable, while Newcastle boss Eddie Howe could field Joe Willock as he returns from injury.
Expect end-to-end action under the Tyne and Wear lights.
But before the clash, Arne Slot has revealed that he has shared some texts with his opposite number.
Speaking to the media, as quoted by GOAL, Slot revealed that he has recently texted Howe – but did not mention any more details or whether it was related to Alexander Isak:
“In general, I have sympathy for Eddie Howe because he is a great human being.
It’s maybe not a coincidence that I’ve texted with him because I think he’s a very nice, honest and polite colleague.”
When quizzed if he feels for the Magpies boss, Slot replied:
“To a certain extent, because I like him as a manager and as a person.
It’s not like we are friends and we are going to go on holiday together.”
“You are asking me these questions because of Isak, of course.”
“I added to that by saying we exchanged messages, the only manager I’ve exchanged messages within the Premier League until now.”
“I do speak to other managers after games?
Maybe he doesn’t have all the numbers of all the other managers.”
Eddie Howe and Richard Hughes have a long-standing relationship, which started when they were both young players.
They both began their professional careers at Bournemouth and also spent several years working together at the Cherries.
