Arne Slot has revealed if Liverpool youngsters Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni will feature in Saturday’s FA Cup third-round tie against Accrington Stanley.

Liverpool welcome the League Two side to Anfield on Saturday, with the game scheduled to kick off at 12.15pm GMT.

Arne Slot’s side join the competition in the third round, with this being only the second time since 2017 that the Reds have faced opposition from outside the Premier League at this stage.

On the other occasion, they beat Shrewsbury Town 4-1 in 2022.

The game offers Liverpool the opportunity to bounce back from their disappointing midweek loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup.

The recent loss ended a 24-game unbeaten run for Slot’s side, but they can bounce back here, given that they are unbeaten in their last eight FA Cup ties at home since West Bromwich Albion won at Anfield in 2018.

Slot spoke to the press ahead of the early kick-off meeting on Saturday, and he was asked about his plans for the squad, including if he planned to play Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni.

What Slot said about Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni

Speaking during the pre-match press conference on Friday, the Liverpool manager revealed that the fitness of the first-team stars could play a part in deciding who features against Accrington.

“We still have to train,” he said when asked if Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni could be involved in the squad against Accrington.

“We couldn’t yesterday because our flight coming back from London arrived quite late here, so we gave them a day off as a result of that.

So we have to wait and see how everybody is recovered today and then we have to make a decision which players we are going to bring to the game.

“But Trey has been in the squad many times already?

I think Rio only once, Southampton away.

“But these players are doing really well when they train with us, doing really well when they play with the U21s.

“So as long as they keep doing that, their chances of getting their moment in the first team will increase of course.”

Ngumoha featured on the bench during Liverpool’s Carabao Cup tie against Southampton last month, while Nyoni was included in the starting XI.

Both players have been training regularly with the first team and could be given their opportunity against the League Two opponents.
