Liverpool fans had grown accustomed to Jurgen Klopp’s passionate fist pump celebration, and now Arne Slot recently acknowledged why he refrained from embracing the traditional salute to the Kop.
Although Slot had his reasons, fans were excited to see him make the gesture as an indication that the new manager was emotionally linked to the Anfield faithful.
Slot clarified in an interview with Liverpool FC that he didn’t want to imitate Klopp’s identity, which makes sense because it reflects the humility and authenticity many supporters love about the Dutchman.

Slot admitted that he was waiting for the right moment when people could actually trust him and connect with him.
That special moment arrived when Liverpool defeated Tottenham 5-1 at Anfield to clinch the Premier League title.
“I always felt that the fans were waiting for a moment like this and I always thought, ‘Don’t do it too early, wait for the final moment when we won it and then it could be a nice interaction with the fans’.”
“Because this is what Jurgen of course always did.
I don’t want to copy Jurgen during the season, but I thought this is a nice moment to do this.
And I didn’t do it by myself, my staff were there as well and I think it was a special moment for all four of us,” Slot shared in his interview.
It was a gesture not made for show but from a shared feeling, and the supporters also paid tribute to the boss by composing a brand new song.
Liverpool fans wasted no time coming up with a new chant to celebrate Slot’s title-winning campaign in his debut season, setting it to the beat of the Dutch hit ‘Links Rechts’ by Snollebollekes.
Is Slot’s homage to the club’s tradition just what the Reds need, or should his celebrations remain private?
