Former Manchester United hitman Louis Saha believes his old club have a chance at signing Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, following the collapse of his Liverpool transfer.

The ex-Fulham and Newcastle forward also believes Guehi would leap at the opportunity to join United.

Guehi had already settled personal terms with Liverpool and undergone a medical as his £35million transfer seemed certain.

Saha believes Guehi, who has experience playing in a back three for Palace, could be a crucial addition for Amorim as he seeks to turn around United's flagging fortunes.

"Marc Guehi is very strong, very solid, very reliable, quick and a good leader," he told Flashscore (via The Mirror).

I do think that he is the type of player who can really help Manchester United's season.

"It's definitely an opportunity to hijack this and stop Liverpool getting stronger.

That's because the Reds are understood to be confident Guehi is committed to securing a switch to Anfield.

The Merseyside outfit are preparing for life without centre-half Ibrahima Konate, whose deal expires next summer.

Meanwhile, experienced defender Joe Gomez is anticipated to depart after nearly leaving the club this year.

Nevertheless, Guehi will also be eligible to enter discussions with foreign clubs from January regarding a pre-contract arrangement.
