Arne Slot has hinted that Liverpool might not be finished in the transfer market.
The Premier League champions have enjoyed a busy summer, bringing in Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, and Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.
The Reds also maintain an ongoing interest in Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.
In addition, Liverpool have agreed a deal worth an initial £26million with Parma to sign Giovanni Leoni.
The Reds saw off competition from several Italian giants and fellow Premier League sides to secure the highly rated central defender.
Leoni will undergo a medical on Merseyside before becoming the club’s ninth signing of the summer transfer window.
Slot even acknowledged the imminent arrival during his press conference on Thursday.
“The clubs have agreed a deal but he hasn’t signed for us yet.
Unfortunately, he was the captain of the team who we lost against last Sunday.
“If you want to have any talks about him you should go to Palace, to (Oliver) Glasner and ask him his opinion about him.”
Slot has just two fully fit central defenders available for Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Bournemouth on Friday – Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate – although Joe Gomez has returned to training following an Achilles injury.
Speaking to Sky Sports in an interview, Arne Slot has admitted Liverpool need to sign at least one attacker this summer.
The Dutchman said: “I see Hugo mainly as a No.9, that could also play from the left or together with another No?
9.”
“It’s clear that with Darwin gone, Luis Diaz gone, and even last season we had five or six options, I think.
“Again, Diogo, I need to mention him as well
We need to have one more attacker at least.”
