Liverpool are linked with some big names but they are incredibly skilled at finding a hidden gem.

After a manic season packed with fixtures, many of the Reds are enjoying some time off before they head back in for pre-season, with their first game against Preston on July 13th.

However, for others, they are trying to announce themselves on the world stage at the Under 21 European Championships, a competition Liverpool will be keeping a close eye on for many reasons.

Current players like Harvey Elliott, Tyler Morton and Jarell Quansah are in action for England, while many of the Reds’ targets are out on display too.

A striker is an area that Arne Slot will want to improve this summer and there are plenty of options on offer at the tournament, ones who also have time to develop and grow.

But, there is already one star at this competition who is tearing it up in the Bundesliga and after another impressive performance on Sunday night, has highlighted why Liverpool should make him their top target.

It may only be two games into the Under 21s Euros but Germany’s Nick Woltemade has already made a huge impression and real statement to some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

After netting a hat-trick in their opening game against Slovenia, he followed it up on Sunday night with another goal and two assists vs Czechia, taking home the Man of the Match in both games.

Woltemade was one of the players to watch at the Euros this summer, especially after his impressive season in the Bundesliga for VfB Stuttgart.

The 23-year-old scored 17 times for the German outfit last season, an achievement rewarded with a first-team call up for his national side for their recent Nations League finals game.

At six foot six inches tall, Woltemade is still good with the ball at his feet and is a clinical finisher, something Liverpool have lacked in a number nine for a good few years.

Before the tournament, he would have been somewhat of a hidden gem, but the Reds may need to act fast as he continues to impress on the world stage, with his price tag likely going up game by game.

The striker only joined Stuttgart last season and despite sub-par seasons at Werder Bremen beforehand, came in and hit the ground running.

He instantly impressed his boss Sebastian Hoeneß who has been full of praise ever since.

“His combination is very special.

He’s excellent on the ball, technically adept, and knows how to dribble through tight spaces,” Hoeneß said in a press conference back in March.

“He can use his height to keep opponents away from him with his arms.

You can also play the ball high to him, and he can hold the ball up.
