On May 5, Alexander-Arnold confirmed what many Liverpool supporters had feared, announcing his intention to leave the club when his contract expires this summer.
With Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool contract set to expire on June 30, Real Madrid face a timing challenge.
The expanded FIFA Club World Cup begins on June 15 in the United States, with Madrid’s opening match scheduled against Al Hilal in Miami on June 18.
This means Alexander-Arnold would miss the start of the tournament if he waits until his Liverpool contract ends.
In response, Real Madrid have already approached Liverpool about signing the defender early.
According to reports, the Spanish club is determined to have Alexander-Arnold available for the entire tournament, evidenced by how quickly they contacted Liverpool after his departure announcement410.
BBC Sport reports that Real Madrid is contemplating an offer of approximately £850,000 to facilitate Alexander-Arnold’s early release from his contract.
There are also suggestions that the club might be prepared to cover the wages owed to Alexander-Arnold by Liverpool to reach an agreement
But now speaking in his pre-Arsenal press conference, the Dutchman was inevitably quizzed for his reaction to the news.
Speaking publicly on Alexander-Arnold for the first, Slot said;
“I think like everyone who likes LFC and is a fan of us, we’re disappointed because a good human is leaving but also a very good full-back as well.”
“I also worked at clubs like AZ and Feyenoord when good players left, so I am a bit more used to it?
The experience I have and this club as well, if a good player leaves, the next good player steps up and that is what will go again.”
He refused to comment on whether Real Madrid would get him early from his contract, saying:
“Do you know where Trent is going.
He hasn’t said anything, just that he will leave, so it is impossible to comment if he will play in the Club World Cup.
If Conor was available, he would have started against Chelsea, so there’s a first chance he might start.”
