But even though Liverpool or Feyenoord are yet to officially announce a deal, Slot has used his recent press conferences to make no secret of his desire to seal a move to Anfield and last month insisted he was "confident" an agreement would be reached between all parties.

That is despite Feyenoord still being in with a shot of winning this year's Eredivisie.

And Warnock, who made over 50 appearances for Liverpool before leaving for Blackburn Rovers in 2007, believes Slot should have remained tight-lipped on his future in Holland until the end of the season - but also appreciates that the Dutchman is clearly "very, very excited" about the prospect of landing such a huge job so early in his managerial career.

"From what I've seen so far of him from his interviews, it feels like he's got that big personality," Warnock told Dazn.

"If I'm being completely honest, I wasn't so sure about his interview talking about the money that Feyenoord are receiving for him and how great it is for Dutch football.

"I just thought it lacked a little bit of class.

That's for the two clubs to sort out.

"However, if you're getting a Liverpool job and you've only been a manager for, I think it's seven and a half years I'd be very excited as well.

And I think the opportunity to go into Liverpool and to fight against [Mikel] Arteta and [Pep] Guardiola towards the top of the league is a proposition that he's probably very, very excited about."

After Liverpool's quest for Premier League glory was derailed following dropped points against Crystal Palace, Everton and West Ham United in recent weeks, Slot is set to inherit a side that will finish behind Arsenal and Manchester City.

However, Warnock believes the Dutchman's priorities should centre around shoring up the Reds' leaky defence if they are to go one better and win the Premier League next term.

"The biggest thing for me, is that they've got great attacking players, but the defensive side of things needs shoring up, and they need athleticism in midfield - I think it's huge," added Warnock.

"I think it's one of the most powerful things in football in the modern day.
