Former England striker Darren Bent believes there is only one player who can replace Mohamed Salah at Liverpool — Kylian Mbappé.

The Athletic reports Liverpool is planning on Salah being part of its squad for next season at this stage.

That situation could of course change once the transfer window opens and Bent believes Mbappé would be the ideal replacement.



The France captain rolled his eyes when asked about Real Madrid's fortunes in the Champions League final, following PSG's defeat to Borussia Dortmund this week.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Bent said: "Imagine you are trying to appease the Liverpool fans by going ‘listen, you are going to lose Salah, but Mbappé is coming.

That would work, if Salah went and he came in.

"I almost feel like that’s what Liverpool needs and he is versatile.

"I talked to Liverpool because it's the favorite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool.

He is reportedly demanding a salary of around $81m (£65m/€75m) after tax, alongside a significant signing-on fee.

Liverpool.com says: If Liverpool was to lose Salah then there is no doubt that Mbappé would be the perfect replacement.
