Ex-Feyenoord player Kaj Ramsteijn has urged soon-to-be-appointed Liverpool coach Arne Slot to consider signing the Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong in the summer transfer window.
It’s widely anticipated that Slot will be appointed as Liverpool’s new boss following the club’s agreement with Feyenoord on Friday.
Initially, Feyenoord rejected the Reds’ offer of £7.7 million as compensation.
However, Liverpool enhanced the deal with an additional £1.7 million in add-ons, which Feyenoord found acceptable.
Slot’s arrival at Liverpool could herald the beginning of significant changes.
With Michael Edwards back working alongside FSG and the new sporting director Richard Hughes, exciting squad adjustments are expected.
While there might be speculation about Feyenoord players, Ramsteijn is confident that Liverpool should aim for bigger and better options.
He suggests tha Frenkie De Jong from Barcelona should be their target.
The 26-year-old is regarded as one of the finest midfielders in La Liga and could be an exceptional addition to Liverpool’s squad.
With Thiago Alcantara becoming a free agent in the summer, Liverpool will need a suitable replacement.
De Jong represents a high-quality option who could make an immediate impact in the Premier League.
The former Ajax midfielder possesses both the physical and technical attributes needed to excel in English football, suggesting he could establish himself as a key player for Liverpool.
De Jong played a pivotal role in helping Barcelona secure the league title last season.
“Arne Slot to Liverpool, take Frenkie De Jong with you,” Ramsteijn told Voetbal Primeur.
“I would think that would be a nice club for him.
“I think Frenkie is so good that I want to see him play for trophies.
He gets the ball, turns away and creates a surplus.”
