Liverpool are the only team to win all of their Premier League games so far, and they will be hoping it stays that way after facing Burnley.

The international break is finally over and Reds fans can look forward to their team returning to action very soon.

They have had three very tricky games to kick off their title defence, and Sunday does not get much easier as they travel to Turf Moor to take on Burnley.

Many may think it will be a breeze for Liverpool given that they are facing a newly-promoted side, but based on how good they were defensively in the Championship last season, anything could happen.

And, if Arne Slot had not been looking forward to going there already, he might be even more unhappy now given the decision the Premier League have just made.

As most would have expected, the start of the new season has not been short of its refereeing or VAR controversy, much to the frustration of teams and fans alike.

Last season was the same, though, and this is something Slot was left annoyed by on numerous occasions during his first season in England, with the Dutchman even having a run-in with one referee in particular.

After the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park in February, Slot was sent off by Michael Oliver after the Dutchman stormed onto the pitch after the game to argue a decision.

And, after seven months of not officiating a Liverpool game, Oliver is in charge for their meeting with Burnley on Sunday, meaning Slot is in for an awkward reunion.

In Oliver’s defence, the game had reached boiling point after James Tarkowski netted a last-minute equaliser, with the aftermath meaning he had some big decisions to make.

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones and Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure were also sent off due to their altercation in front of the away fans at the full-time whistle, and so too was Slot’s assistant Sipke Hulshoff.

These scenes got both sides in trouble, with Liverpool being handed a £50,000 fine whilst Everton received a £65,000 penalty.

Slot himself was also issued a £70,000 fine due to his reaction, so it will be interesting to see if he has learned his lesson this time around.

It is safe to say that Liverpool’s record against Burnley bodes well for them heading into this clash, with the Reds winning their last five Premier League games against them.

Last time they went to Turf Moor, they came away with a 2-0 win courtesy of goals from Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota.

However, a shock is always on the cards and back in 2021, Burnley were the team that put an end to Liverpool’s 69-game unbeaten run at Anfield after winning there 1-0.

This ended a four-year record that was the second-longest in Premier League history, with only Chelsea bettering it after going 86 matches unbeaten at Stamford Bridge between 2004 and 2008.
