Arsenal is reportedly set to walk away from a deal to sign Viktor Gyokeres — who has also been linked with Liverpool — due to Sporting Lisbon's demands, leaving the Gunners in a delicate position in their pursuit of a new striker.

Sporting has been emboldened with its valuation of Gyokeres by the knowledge that the player is in high demand — so perhaps the Gunners might have been better served by taking a leaf out of Liverpool's book, and chasing Gyokeres on the down-low.

Liverpool wrapped up its three major summer signings before the end of June, having quietly gone about its pursuits of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez.
