Arsenal and Tottenham are set for another transfer battle in the next transfer window as they are among the clubs interested in a La Liga star.

Tottenham were in the market for a creative midfielder in the summer window following James Maddison’s ACL injury in pre-season.

While they had a deal in place for Eberechi Eze, their arch-rivals Arsenal swooped in and completed a deal for the 27-year-old.

Spurs then moved for Xavi Simons and signed the Dutchman for £51 million, but have often deployed him on the left-hand side rather than in Maddison’s central role.

Now, there seem to be suggestions that both North London clubs are still in the hunt for a player who can bring added creativity in the final third.

According to Spanish outlet Ficahjes, Arsenal and Tottenham are among the clubs that have “expressed interest” in Athletic Club star Oihan Sancet.

They added that the versatile attacking midfielder has a €80 million (£69m) release clause, and that Aston Villa also showed previous interest.

Football Insider had revealed that Sancet was on Aston Villa’s transfer list back in November 2024, and while they have a long-standing interest, the funds required for a deal may prove difficult.

At 25, the playmaker has made 198 appearances for Athletic Club, and has racked up 43 goals and 18 assists, underlining his ability to both create and finish chances.

Last term was his most productive season, scoring 17 goals in all competitions, and he can deploy as a centre-forward if needed.

While Spurs already brought in Simons this summer, a move for Sancet could prove a more natural option as the attacking midfielder.

Frank has often used Simons as a left-winger so far this season, despite Spurs fans preferring to see him in a central role.

The Dutchman featured on the left 16 times last season, showing his versatility.

While Maddison is set to miss the majority of the campaign, a move in January for Sancet could be an option to solve any creative void and add competition in the future.

With a release clause active, Tottenham can beat their rivals to his signature if they move quickly.
