Arsenal are of the belief that one of their newest additions has the ability to become one of the world’s best in his position.
Mikel Arteta‘s side showed promise in the Champions League season, but came undone after Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, and Kai Havertz were ruled out for long periods.
Gabriel Magalhaes also suffered a season-ending injury, leading to a loss to PSG in the semi-finals.
In an attempt to avoid another season coming undone due to injuries, Arsenal signed Viktor Gyokeres to lead the line.
Arsenal also signed Noni Madueke and Piero Hincapie to add depth to their squad.
However, it is actually one of their less heralded signings from this summer who has impressed the club the most, and there is now a belief that he can become world-class in his position.
Cristhian Mosquera was signed from Valencia this summer in a deal worth £13million [Sky Sports].

The 21-year-old is a versatile option for Arteta, capable of playing at both centre-back and right-back.
Thanks to an injury suffered by William Saliba, Mosquera has been fast-tracked into the Arsenal starting XI.

The Spain Under-21 international has impressed in his first three games for the club, showing maturity on the ball and was particularly outstanding against Nottingham Forest in the Gunners’ 3-0 win on Saturday, 13 September.
Following his strong start to life at the Emirates, Daily Mail reports that sources at Arsenal “believe Mosquera could become one of the best defenders in the world.”
The young defender is also seen as having the “quality and fitness to allow Saliba or Gabriel to have sufficient rest this season”, which proved to be an issue during the 2024-25 campaign.
As mentioned above, Mosquera’s arrival in North London went slightly under the radar for several reasons.
The Spanish defender arrived for a relatively small fee and much of the attention at the time was on the potential incoming of Gyokeres.
However, the recruitment of Mosquera shows the doors that Andrea Berta’s appointment has opened.

Having spent the majority of his career at Atletico Madrid, the sporting director’s expertise in the Spanish market has allowed Arsenal to get their hands on a player who is already showing the promise of becoming a world-beater.
Whilst the North London side is likely to continue looking to sign players who can make an instant impact, such as Gyokeres and Madueke, having a sporting director who can scour the market and find low-priced players with the upside that Mosquera has displayed will be invaluable for the Gunners in the long-run.
