Arsenal have confirmed a surprise shake-up behind the scenes at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal and Mikel Arteta had a busy summer transfer window and look set to challenge once again for the Premier League title.

The Gunners have gone through several changes over the last few months, with Edu leaving as sporting director as the North London club appointed Andrea Berta.

Berta played a crucial role during the window, bringing in eight new players, including the likes of Eberechi Eze, Viktor Gyokeres, and Noni Madueke.

However, news has emerged that executive vice-chair Tim Lewis has left Arsenal as part of a reshaping of the board, with a new appointment sparking frustration among supporters.

As well as Lewis leaving the Emirates, Richard Garlick was promoted to CEO, while they also announced that film producer Ben Winston had been added as a non-executive director.

Winston is believed to have been an Arsenal season ticket holder for more than 30 years and now takes a place on the board.

Meanwhile, Lewis has been at Arsenal since 2007 and was heavily involved in their transfer dealings this summer, with his relationship with Steve Parish key to the Eze signing.

He had advised Stan Kroenke on his investments in the Gunners since joining the club.

While Kroenke hasn’t always had full support from Arsenal fans, this summer’s busy activity highlights the scale of change now taking place at the Emirates.

The appointment of Winston hasn’t gone down well with supporters, with many questioning his lack of direct football experience.

The move is thought to have been influenced by Kroenke, who has seen his fortune increase by more than £1.8billion over the past year.

It’s uncertain what role Winston will play at the club, but he has been involved in the football world through his production work.

His production company have produced programmes such as Sunderland’s Netflix documentary ‘Till I die and the Class of 92 around ex-Manchester United players.

But this may be the exact reason why Arsenal fans have reacted in anger over the appointment.

A film producer knows nothing about football”, and another saying, “What does he know about football?

That’s not a good move”.

Arsenal fans will desperately hope that they can be proven wrong.
