Arsenal’s Champions League campaign came to a halt at the Allianz Arena as Joshua Kimmich’s header propelled Bayern Munich into the semi-finals.

Kimmich’s goal in the 63rd minute, off Raphael Guerreiro’s delivery, secured the Germans’ passage to the semi-finals with a 3-2 aggregate victory.

This followed a 2-2 draw in the first leg in London.

Despite hosting the match at Emirates Stadium, Arsenal remained optimistic about progressing against a Bayern Munich squad that had struggled domestically and was missing key players Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman due to injury.

In a tense and closely contested second leg, Gabriel Martinelli had Arsenal’s best opportunity in the first half, but his shot went straight to Manuel Neuer after Jamal Musiala forced David Raya into a full-stretch save at the other end.

While Harry Kane had only nine touches in the opening 45 minutes, Neuer was called into action again by Martin Odegaard’s deflected attempt, prompting the Bayern Munich keeper to scramble across his line.

With both teams vying for a spot in the semi-finals, chances were scarce in the first half.

However, the second half saw increased intensity, with Leon Goretzka’s header hitting the post and Guerreiro’s follow-up effort being cleared off the line by Raya, via the post.

Kimmich scored the match-winner and ultimately dashed Arsenal’s hopes.

“It’s the moment to stay next to the players and stick with them because they took us on this journey.”

“Six games to go, two points behind City.

“We have to go through the pain tonight and tomorrow we must get up with the right attitude and hopefully beat Wolves [on Saturday].”

Bayern will await the winner between Real Madrid and Manchester City for the semi-finals, scheduled for April 30/May 1 and May 7/8.

The Gunners will now switch their attention to the Premier League?

Mikel Arteta’s side has now suffered back-to-back defeats, having lost to Aston Villa over the weekend.

Arsenal, who are second in the league table will face Wolves on Saturday at the Molineux Stadium.
