The Liverpool head coach barely picked Chiesa in his first season, and the club and it was widely expected that he would leave.

Two days after Chiesa netted, Calafiori netted the only goal of the game at Old Trafford as an unconvincing Arsenal beat Manchester United.

Chiesa only made his first Premier League start when the title was already wrapped up last season following a cut-price $13 million (£10 million) move from Juventus.

"As long as he's here, it's definitely at Liverpool and I have no reason to believe something is going to change," Slot said in his post-match press conference on Friday.
