Liverpool are in talks with Feyenoord over the possibility of appointing Arne Slot as their new head coach, and the Dutchman already has Premier League admirers.

The Reds will see current boss Jurgen Klopp depart this summer after nine years at Anfield. The likes of Rubin Amorim and Roberto De Zerbi have been linked with making the move to Merseyside but it appears Liverpool have made the 45-year-old their priority.

It does not appear Slot will be short of options, and the club's sporting hierarchy, including the returning Michael Edwards and sporting director Richard Hughes, will have to prove persuasive. The Feyenoord boss is said to also be fielding interest from Bayern Munich, with Thomas Tuchel to depart this summer.

Liverpool are not the first members of the Premier League to have been impressed by Slot's work in the Netherlands either. The former Zwolle and Breda midfielder finished as runner-up in the Europa Conference league in his first year managing Feyenood, before adding an Eredivisie title in his second and he lifted the KNVB Cup with his side in 2023/24.

Slot was on the shortlist of Tottenham last summer but chose to stay in his home nation, before the Lilywhites appointed Ange Postecoglou. Across north London lies a figure who may know him better than most in the Premier League however.

Reiss Nelson played under Slot 31 times at Feyenoord and was impressed in his time at the club. "Holland was great for me," the winger said of his loan spell in 2021/22.

"I felt like Arne Slot is a great manager. He really got me into my rhythm. He gave me a lot of opportunities to play and I excelled.

Reiss Nelson celebrates after helping Feyenoord reach the Conference League final

"It was really cool, like I said we got to the final. It was just the little things with the personal life, not my family around, the Corona situation. So it was a bit tough. But football-wise, it was perfect."

Liverpool are planning talks over a settlement package with Feyenoord in a bid to prise their manager away. Slot still has a contract with just under two years to run and it is understood that the figure required will be around £8.6m.
