Arsenal have been praised after executing a clever Thierry Henry trick that could land them an extraordinary £150million.

Mikel Arteta’s side are preparing for the upcoming Premier League campaign, as they aim to end a run of three second-place finishes in a row by winning the title.

The Gunners have had a busy window in the transfer market, bringing in Noni Madueke, Martin Zubimendi, and Christian Norgaard.

Arsenal have also added Viktor Gyokeres to their attacking ranks, after years of supporters calling for a new centre-forward.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Gyokeres will make the club a huge amount of money in shirt sales.

This article contains exclusive comment from Keith Wyness, former Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen CEO.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that it was a clever move to give new signing Gyokeres the number 14 shirt, as Arsenal will earn more money through commission.

Gunners legend Henry made the number famous during his first spell in North London.

Wyness added that Arsenal are targeting £120m in shirt sales, but could make up to £150m.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “My understanding is, and I don’t know the exact numbers, but I understand the Adidas contract was extended and Arsenal are getting about £75m a year as a base for their shirt situation.

So on top of the £75m, with every shirt that’s sold there’ll be a portion going to Arsenal.

“The fact that they were clever enough to put the number 14, Thierry Henry’s number, onto Gyokeres’ shirt as well.

There’s also a Lewis-Skelly shirt that’s been very popular, with 49 on the back and a nod to the Invincibles.

“Arsenal have been very smart and the sales numbers are significant, and so I believe that they’re going from £75m to £120m in terms of revenue for the shirts, and it could go up to £150m if things really go well.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal are reportedly planning to accept a Gabriel Jesus offer in the final month of the transfer window after the landmark capture of Gyokeres.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that the 28-year-old is no longer a part of Arteta’s long-term plans.

Gyokeres’ arrival from Sporting CP has forced the Brazil international down the pecking order, where he has now become the third-choice striker.

Brown told Football Insider in November that Arsenal were planning to entertain offers for Jesus in January, before his cruciate ligament injury scuppered their plans.
