Arsenal will have to sell three of their current squad in order to fund a deal to sign Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Gunners have had a busy transfer window so far, making a number of major additions as they look to challenge for the Premier League title this season.

Eberechi Eze was the most recent incoming at the Emirates, joining the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, and Christian Norgaard.

Now, Arsenal are in talks to bring in Hincapie to strengthen their defensive ranks and give Mikel Arteta more options in that area.

However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the North London side will have to sell players before they can complete a deal for the Ecuadorian defender.

This article contains exclusive comment from Keith Wyness, former Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen CEO.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Arsenal have to offload Jakub Kiwior, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Fabio Vieira before being able to afford Hincapie.

Kiwior has been heavily linked with Porto, and both Zinchenko and Vieira are well down the pecking order under Arteta.

Wyness added that if they manage to complete the signing of Hincapie, Arsenal will have had the best transfer window in the Premier League.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Hincapie could be coming to Arsenal, but I think there are about three players Arsenal have to sell first, and I think they’re pretty far advanced on those.

If those are far enough advanced, then I’d expect them to go after Hincapie.

I think that’s exactly what they need.

Then we’re getting close to Arsenal having the full squad.

This week we’ll see where we go, but I think Arsenal will probably be coming out of it having had one of the best windows out of all the clubs.”

Meanwhile, Newcastle United won’t consider any transfer bids for either Anthony Gordon or Bruno Guimaraes this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed in May that Arsenal were interested in a move for Gordon this summer, but their transfer activity has taken a different course after Newcastle qualified for the Champions League.

The Magpies are adamant that the winger will remain at the club beyond the end of the transfer window.

However, Arteta’s side could still be in the market for another wide option, despite the signing of Eze from Crystal Palace.
