But that might not be the end of Arsenal’s transfer spend this summer, given the talk in Spain is that Mikel Arteta is “in love” with the prospect of signing Real Madrid attacker Rodrygo.

The 24-year-old could be on the move this summer, with Real Madrid said to be open to a sale, should the right offer arrive.

According to The Athletic, it could be Arsenal who spring a move, with their reporter claiming that Arteta has "carefully studied Rodrygo" and is certain that the Brazilian would be a superstar in north London.

It emerged last month that offers in the region of £68million could be listened to by Real Madrid, amid uncertainty surrounding Rodrygo’s position in the starting XI next season.

It’s not yet known if new Los Blancos coach Xabi Alonso fancies Rodrygo as a starter, with a bigger clue into the Spanish coach’s plans expected to drop at this summer’s Club World Cup.

Talk of adding a forward to the club's ranks will please former player Ray Parlour, who has highlighted winger as one of three positions he wants to see Arsenal target this summer.

He said: "A winger would still be great to cover [Bukayo] Saka and Martinelli.

[A deal for Martin] Zubimendi appears to be getting closer, but the striker is the most important position for me.

"Obviously, [Benjamin] Sesko has been well linked and he looks a good, young player.

Very strong, quick and knows where the back of the net is, so he’d be a great addition."

The transfer market is currently on pause until the Club World Cup gets underway, with business set to resume on June 16.
