Alan Myers has provided a new update for Everton fans regarding the current status of summer-long target Jack Grealish from Man City.

Following two seasons of frustrating injuries and limited minutes, the City wide man has been one of the main targets for mid-table clubs this window.

The England international started just seven of his 20 Premier League appearances last campaign under Pep Guardiola, plunging his future at the Etihad into doubt.

The 29-year-old has been linked with several clubs including being tipped by Gabby Agbonlahor to fill in for James Maddison at Tottenham.

Yet, he has a long-term admirer in David Moyes who would be keen to build a team around him at Everton if given the chance.

Myers, former director of communications at the Toffees, offered a tantalising new update on the Scotsman’s pursuit of the left-winger.

Taking to X (6 August), the ex-Sky Sports editor delivered a promising new development on the Aston Villa academy product.

Given his close ties with Merseyside, he said: “[Jack] Grealish interest has been there for a while, as far as I understand there are no formal negotiations ongoing and the situation is as it has been since the window began.

“Man City will decide what they want to do (permanent/loan/or stay) definitely a deal to be done though imo [in my opinion].”

Football Insider verdict

Despite the pursuit of Everton for Southampton’s Tyler Dibling, there is still a clear opportunity for the 29-year-old to breeze into the side.

In pre-season Moyes has utilised James Garner on the right and Iliman N’Diaye on the left with one of Carlos Alcaraz or Dwight McNeil in the number 10 role.

The blue half of Merseyside have struggled in front of goal, netting just three times in five matches, failing to win any of them.

Therefore, the prospect of a creative hub in Grealish presents an enticing way for the former West Ham boss to galvanise his attack.

The England international has shown he can be used both on the left and behind the striker, demonstrating positional versatility.

Undoubtedly, City’s number 10 has bags of talent but just needs an encouraging environment to show off and prove to Guardiola why he brought him to the Etihad in the first place.
