Harvey Elliott has sealed a season-long loan move from Liverpool to Aston Villa, with Villa Park set to bankroll a £35 million obligation to buy next summer.

The 22-year-old, who joined Liverpool from Fulham in 2019 and made 149 appearances scoring 17 goals, found his first-team opportunities limited after Arne Slot’s appointment.

The agreement includes both a buy-back and a sell-on clause, securing Liverpool’s long-term interest in his development.

Elliot, named Player of the Tournament at this summer’s U21 European Championship, arrives at Villa keen to rekindle his form and bolster a side yet to score in their opening Premier League games.

Villa beat off competition from RB Leipzig, West Ham and Fulham to land the talented midfielder.

Elliott leaves Anfield having won two Premier League titles, a FIFA Club World Cup, a League Cup, and two FA Cups.

And in the days since his departure, there has been some confusion around whether it’s a permanent move or not.

However, Jacob Tanswell of the Athletic has revealed that it the obligation to buy is dependent on Elliott making 10 appearances for Unai Emery’s side in 2025/26:

“I’ve seen some people be confused about the Harvey Elliott move to Aston Villa thinking it’s a loan but it’s now been revealed that Harvey Elliott’s obligation to buy is dependent on him making 10 appearances this season for Villa this season.”

The move to Villa Park makes a lot of sense for Elliott, who needs to be starting week in and week out at this stage in his career.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah penned a short but powerful goodbye to Elliott on Instagram:

“You’ll be remembered for your loyalty and dedication every time you were called upon,” the Egyptian wrote.

“You leave as a champion, and I’ve got no doubt you’ll do big things at your new club
