Aston Villa could be staring at a PSR nightmare following the latest update regarding Jacob Ramsey.
Ramsey has been linked with a move away from Villa Park this summer, with Everton among those understood to admire the former England youth international.
The 24-year-old is a product of the Villa academy and has made 167 appearances for the club across all competitions to date, registering 17 goals and 19 assists.
However, Ramsey’s status as a homegrown also makes it incredibly tempting to sell him as Villa look to improve their financial prospects — both domestically and with Uefa.

“If they are going to want to bring players in, they’re going to have to sell to offset that, and they’re going to have to find a way to get the squad cost and the losses down to comply again with UEFA,” football finance expert Dan Plumley told Football Insider in late July.
Ramsey was always thought to be one of the first players Villa would sell this summer, with any fee gained for his departure going down as pure profit on the balance sheet.
However, former Premier League scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider earlier in August that the chances of Ramsey leaving Villa Park were diminishing, despite plenty of interest in the midfielder.

“It’s looking more and more likely that Ramsey could stay at Villa,” said Brown.
“There are a fair few clubs who have been looking at him and would take him at the right price, but Villa want a lot of money for him.
“Villa have made a decision about how much he’s worth, and clubs aren’t willing to pay that.
“Nottingham Forest were looking at him, but Gibbs-White is staying now so that puts that one in doubt, and Everton won’t pay what Villa want.
“The issue for Villa is whether they’re going to have to sell players because of their financial position.
“There’s been a lot of talk about it, but it’s not clear where they stand at the moment.
“If they need to sell, Ramsey is one they’ve always been open to cashing in on, and they might be forced to reduce the asking price for him.
“At the moment, though, I think he’s more likely to stay at Villa than go anywhere else.”

Aston Villa recently completed their first major signing of the summer — aside from back-up goalkeeper Marco Bizot and teenage defender Yasin Ozcan — bringing Ivorian striker Evann Guessand on board from Nice.
However, Unai Emery will be desperate for further additions after missing out on Champions League football last season — especially as Emi Martinez, Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins all continue to be linked with moves away from the club.
Despite him being a quality midfielder, the sale of Rogers would have offered Villa much more flexibility in the market, both in keeping hold of key players and bolstering their squad for next season.
Keeping the Birmingham-born playmaker around might well prove to remove that flexibility and could serve to embolden suitors of Villa’s bigger names to come back for another bite at the cherry.
It’s a balancing act Emery and Villa must be careful to pull off as they seek to continue competing with the Premier League’s leading lights.
