Aston Villa given new way to complete Nicolas Jackson deal - 'this could suit everyone'

Fri 29 August 2025 7:30, UK

Aston Villa have been given a new way to complete a last-minute deal for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.

Villa have been linked with Jackson for some time, as a potential replacement for Jhon Duran, who left for the Saudi Pro League back in January.

The Chelsea striker has a very good relationship with Unai Emery, following the pair’s time together at Villarreal.

On Monday (25 August), Football Insider exclusively revealed that Bayern Munich had opened talks to sign Jackson.

However, Aston Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that his old side can still get a deal for the Senegal international over the line.

This article contains exclusive comment from Keith Wyness, former Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen CEO.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Aston Villa could sign Jackson on loan, with an option to buy included in the deal.

The 24-year-old has a contract at Stamford Bridge until 2033, so it would take a huge bid to secure him permanently.

Wyness added that a loan would suit Villa, as they wouldn’t have to meet Chelsea’s lofty valuation of Jackson.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “He’s been linked with nearly everybody.

But he’s one that will get a move and certainly Villa have been linked, and seem to be emerging as the favourite now.

“If the Morgan Rogers deal gets done, then they could potentially use some of the funds for Jackson as well.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jackson going on loan to somebody at a very high loan fee as well.

“There seem to be question marks about him, so it could well be a loan with an option to buy.

That could suit Villa as well in terms of their financial structure, so we’ll watch how that one plays out.”

Meanwhile, Aston Villa are reportedly prepared to allow Matty Cash to leave the club before the transfer window closes.

That is according to their former scout Mick Brown, who claims that Emery feels he can upgrade on the 28-year-old in the transfer market.

However, a deal will only be approved if they can bring in a replacement in the coming days, as they do not want to be caught short in the market.

Football Insider exclusively revealed in June that Aston Villa are willing to sell Cash but are struggling to drum up interest as a result of his £100,000-per-week wages.
