Morgan Rogers’ potential switch from Aston Villa to Chelsea could still happen before the end of the transfer window.

On 3 August, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Villa are doing everything in their power to keep Rogers at the club.

Earlier in the window, Chelsea proposed a player exchange for the 23-year-old, including cash plus Tosin Adarabioyo and Nicolas Jackson.

The Midlands giants have remained consistent in their message that the England international is not for sale.

However, Aston Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness– who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Chelsea can still get a deal done for Rogers this summer.

This article contains exclusive comment from Keith Wyness, former Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen CEO.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that if Chelsea come in with an offer of around £80million for Rogers, then Villa may be in a position where they have to sell.

Unai Emery’s side narrowly avoided breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules back in June.

Wyness added that Villa are still trying to balance the books, which could lead to Rogers leaving at some point over the next year.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “The speculation is that Chelsea still want him big time.

Villa have been very quiet in the media, very quiet in the transfer window, because we know there are serious PSR number issues there.

I still believe that if Chelsea come in at something like £70m to £80m for Morgan Rogers, Villa may still be in a position where they say, ‘we have to get the deal done’.

“It’s not a finished deal yet, even though Villa may offer him double his wages.

I think Villa are still trying to balance the books and it’s going to be very tight, which is why they’ve been so quiet in this window so far.

There is a bit of jockeying going on.”

Meanwhile, Newcastle United have set their sights on a deal for Chelsea striker Jackson after Man United beat them to Benjamin Sesko’s signature.

The Blues have slapped an initial £80m asking price on Jackson, however, sparking doubts about whether Newcastle will be prepared to match that fee.

This comes after former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the Red Devils walked away from signing Jackson after learning of the price tag.

The Magpies are one of five clubs eyeing the Chelsea striker in the closing stages of the transfer window as he is now expected to leave Stamford Bridge.
