The 25-year-old has represented both the Red Devils and his former club, Borussia Dortmund, in the Champions League, while he scored in Chelsea’s Conference League final victory over Betis last season.
Villa have scored just two goals across all competitions so far this term, but Sancho’s return of five goals and eight assists in his loan spell with Chelsea suggests that he can produce the goods in the West Midlands.
A victory over Bologna will give Emery’s side the confidence they need to succeed in their next Premier League game against Fulham, as well as their first Europa League away trip to Feyenoord on Thursday, 2 October.
Villa desperately need to find a route out of their current slump, and Sancho can be the man to do that for them.
