The Reds will have to make history in quarter-final comeback bid
Close

Liverpool have a Europa League mountain to climb as they face Atalanta in tonight’s quarter-final second-leg tie in Italy.
The Reds were shockingly torn apart 3-0 by the Serie A side at Anfield last week and then surrendered the initiative in the Premier League title race on Sunday after a surprise 1-0 loss at home to Crystal Palace.
Atalanta dominated Liverpool, recording the highest xG (2.58) by a visiting team at Anfield since Manchester City in February 2021.
Gianluca Scamacca, who scored only three goals in his solitary season in the Premier League at West Ham, netted a brace and bullied the home defence.
There has never been an instance of a team overturning a three-goal deficit away from home to win a Europa League knockout tie.
If Liverpool want to reach the semi-finals, they’ll have to make history.
Coverage starts at 7pm.
