Atletico Madrid appear to have moved on from their pursuit of Andy Robertson, as the Spanish club nears a deal for Atalanta’s Matteo Ruggeri.
According to a report by ESPN, Atletico are close to completing the signing of Ruggeri this week, despite previously reaching an agreement with Robertson.
The Liverpool left-back had emerged as a top target for Diego Simeone’s side, but the focus has now shifted firmly to the younger Italian.

Robertson’s decision to stay put would likely be welcomed by many Liverpool supporters and by Milos Kerkez, who recently joined the Reds and made clear how much he looks up to the veteran.
I had a conversation with my brothers and we always say that, also for me personally, Robbo is the best left-back that played in the Premier League, for me, and my brothers agree on that also,” Kerkez told the club’s official website (via reports by Standard).
“So, to come and to be next to such a player who has so much experience, played so many years on a high level, won the Champions League and everything, it’s important for me.”
With Robertson now expected to remain at Anfield, Liverpool may explore options to sell Kostas Tsimikas instead.
The Greek full-back has served as backup in recent years, but with Kerkez added to the squad and Robertson staying, a move for Tsimikas might be the logical outcome.
Atletico had also considered Lucas Digne of Aston Villa, but Ruggeri has emerged as their top choice.
