Atletico Madrid are facing a team selection headache ahead of their Champions League clash with Liverpool on Tuesday evening.

Given Liverpool have been in fine goalscoring form so far this season, this is a scenario last year's La Liga winners would have hoped to avoid.

Diego Simeone's side host the Reds in the Spanish capital in less than a week, but are set to be without key personnel in the heart of defence when the teams go head-to-head.

Savic, meanwhile, was handed a four-match Champions League ban last season for elbowing Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger and has only served two of these games, meaning he will also be forced to sit out the fixture at Anfield on November 3.

First-choice central defenders Jose Maria Gimenez and Stefan Savic are both expected to miss out for Atletico, with the former injured and the latter suspended.

The Spanish side have used the 3-5-2 formation at times this campaign, but may have to abandon this approach and opt for a four-back system in response to their injury woes.
