Atletico Madrid have decided to retain Conor Gallagher despite transfer interest from Crystal Palace and other Premier League clubs.

Ahead of transfer deadline day on Monday, 1 September, England midfielder Gallagher attracted interest from Crystal Palace and Everton.

The 25-year-old has featured in all three of Atletico’s La Liga fixtures so far this term, although Diego Simeone’s men are still winless.

Palace’s transfer window has been largely defined by the fact that former star man Eberechi Eze joined Arsenal, while defender Marc Guehi is nearing a deadline day move to Liverpool.

Therefore, Gallagher, who excelled while on loan with the Eagles in the 2021/22 season, would have been a welcome addition for Oliver Glasner.

However, as per talkSPORT, Atletico see Gallagher as a key player and are not selling him this transfer window.

Gallagher would have been an ideal asset for either Palace or Everton, as both clubs strive to enjoy a successful season in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, the South London club are also vying to perform well in the Conference League, having beaten Norwegian side Fredrikstad in their two-legged qualifier.

However, since leaving the Premier League in favour of La Liga last summer, Gallagher has excelled for Atletico Madrid, notching four goals and six assists last season.

While the former Chelsea man was not named in Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad, he should get himself back into Three Lions contention if he continues performing well in the Spanish top flight.

Furthermore, remaining at Atletico Madrid hands him the opportunity to play in the Champions League, which he would not be able to do for either Everton or Palace.

The 25-year-old will have the chance to show his class on the big stage when Simeone’s side face Liverpool on 17 September.
