Alexander Isak has completed a British-record transfer from Newcastle United to Liverpool for £125 million on the final day of the 2025 summer transfer window. The Swedish striker, who joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 and made 109 appearances for the club, signed a six-year contract with Liverpool and will wear the No. 9 shirt.

The move marks the highest transfer fee in Premier League history, surpassing Chelsea’s £115 million purchase of Moisés Caicedo in 2023. Liverpool's spending this summer has reached £446 million, balanced by £228 million in sales for a net spend of £218 million.

Isak had pushed to leave Newcastle during the summer window, refusing to train or play under manager Eddie Howe as the transfer saga extended for months. He finally underwent medical tests and completed the move on deadline day, bringing an end to the negotiation.

Upon signing, Isak expressed his excitement about joining Liverpool, emphasizing his desire to contribute goals and overall team success. He remarked, “It’s been a long journey to get here... I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work.”

This signing, together with the acquisition of German striker Florian Wirtz—who joined for a record $133 million from Bayer Leverkusen—illustrates Liverpool’s aggressive investment strategy in strengthening their attack for the upcoming season.

The transfer also signals further shifts in club dynamics, considering the Saudi Arabia-backed Newcastle’s reluctance to sell and Isak’s refusal to remain at the club under Howe’s management.
