Liverpool’s transfer business is already starting to take shape as the summer window edges ever closer.
The Reds are likely to be busy over the coming months as they begin to shape a squad to defend their Premier League title.
With the curtain yet to even come down on the current campaign, Liverpool are setting up their first deal of the summer.
Jeremie Frimpong looks set to arrive as Arne Slot attempts to plug the hole left by the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Frimpong’s addition is an intriguing one, though, in that the Dutchman can also play further up the pitch.
And according to journalist James Pearce, this versatility could potentially lead to Liverpool selling one of their most promising young players.

Anyone who has watched Frimpong play over the past few years will have noted that if he is a right-back, he is an extremely attacking one.
Often seen playing high up the pitch, the 24-year-old is a significant goal threat and it would not be a surprise to see him playing in Liverpool’s forward line in the coming years.

While that is exciting, Pearce says it could come at the cost of Ben Doak‘s Liverpool future, with Frimpong’s arrival limiting the pathway to the Reds attack even further.
“I think a lot will depend on pre-season and on what kind of offers are forthcoming in terms of loans and possible permanents,” Pearce told the Walk On podcast when asked about Liverpool’s young players this summer.

“Liverpool turned down decent-ish money for Ben Doak in January.
They value him at about double that.
“The awkward thing for him in terms of his Liverpool prospects is with Salah signing a new contract and if Frimpong comes in there’s a possibility of playing him further up the pitch at times,” he adds.
It’s difficult at the minute to see the pathway for him.”
As well as delivering a slightly bleak portrait of what the future holds for Doak at Liverpool, Pearce also took a quick look at the situations of fellow youngsters Jayden Danns and Stefan Bajcetic.
Interestingly, it sounds to be less likely that either of the pair are sold, although loans could still be the order of the day.
“Danns they’ve still got big hopes for,” Pearce said.
His future probably is linked to who Liverpool bring in over the summer, if he’s not going to play it certainly makes sense to loan him out for the season.
That’s probably the most likely one.”
“The feedback Liverpool have had on Bajcetic since he’s been there has been really positive,” he added.
Liverpool don’t really have a back-up for Gravenberch and maybe Bajcetic could carry out that role.”
