Signing players in the transfer window can often become a little more complicated once the season gets underway.
Liverpool are well known for getting their business done early, and that has largely been the case again during a busy summer this year.
However, there is still some work for Liverpool to do, as they continue to search for new options in defence and attack.
Marc Guehi has been identified as a key target to bolster Arne Slot’s centre-back options, but the Crystal Palace captain is continuing to play for his club.
Guehi risked potential injury on Sunday to turn out against former team Chelsea, and appears likely to play for Palace as they get their Europa Conference League campaign underway on Thursday.
From a Liverpool point of view, this could lead to concerns that Guehi may then be cup-tied for the Champions League should he move to Anfield.
Thankfully, BBC presenter Gabby Logan has been on hand to clear things up.

Palace’s presence in Europe this season has been the source of much debate and disappointment over recent weeks.
As FA Cup winners, the Eagles should be playing Europa League football in 2025/26.
However, owing to UEFA’s multi-club rules and a missed deadline on Palace’s end, they have been demoted.

Instead, they will have to earn their place in the Conference League, and face Norwegian side Fredrikstad in a two-legged qualifier, with the first match arriving on Thursday.

But, speaking during BBC Match of the Day 2 on Sunday evening, Logan confirmed that if Guehi plays in midweek he would not be ruled out of further involvement in a different European competition.
“They [Guehi and Eberechi Eze] can play on Thursday actually and then not be tied in other European competitions, should they go somewhere that wears red that plays perhaps in a different European competition,” said the presenter.
One way Liverpool can of course avoid Guehi playing at all on Thursday is by pushing to secure his signature over the coming days.
The Reds do not play until Monday evening when they line up for what should be an especially spicy fixture against Newcastle.
In the meantime, work should be getting done on stepping up pursuits of both Guehi and Alexander Isak.
If the Reds can make a breakthrough before Palace play on Thursday, it may be that the centre-back is removed from action for the Eagles.
Should the negotiations continue into back end of the week and beyond, though, Liverpool will risk Guehi picking up an injury again as he plays in Palace’s third ever European fixture.
