Mohammed Salah has had a fairly decent start to the Premier League season in terms of numbers for Liverpool, but there is a question mark around his overall performance level.

So far this term, the Egyptian international has scored two league goals for Arne Slot’s side, as well as picking up one assist, with the Reds on maximum points after four games.

The 33-year-old found the back of the net in wins over Burnley and Bournemouth, as well as setting up Rio Ngumoha’s last-minute winner against Newcastle United, in a dramatic game at St James’ Park.

However, his overall play has flattered to deceive, with suggestions arising that his impressive output in Liverpool colours is covering up poor performances.

On Sunday (15 September), Liverpool sneaked a 1-0 win over relegation favourites Burnley, with Salah scoring a last-minute penalty to grab all three points.

However, once again the rest of his display left a lot to be desired, and the spot-kick was the Egypt international’s only shot of the entire game.

Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day 2, former Arsenal winger Theo Walcott noted that one thing in particular is Salah’s biggest weakness at the moment.

Walcott said: “Right now, he’s in good shape, but it’s just the habits I’m talking about.

“I would say his decision-making in the final third is his biggest weakness at this moment in time.”

Danny Murphy, former Liverpool and Fulham midfielder, added: “Physically, he looks really sharp and really good.

Everything was coming off for him last season, all the assists and picking the right pass at the right moment.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool are confident they will win the race for Marc Guehi, beating the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City, sources have told Football Insider.

Despite agreeing a British record deal for Alexander Isak on transfer deadline day, the Reds were dealt a blow when they missed out on Guehi.

Football Insider revealed on 12 September that Man City are plotting a move for Guehi alongside the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

However, Slot’s side remain confident of getting a deal over the line in 2026, with the centre-back widely expected to leave Crystal Palace for free.
