Federico Chiesa’s future at Liverpool has taken a dramatic U-turn after initially appearing destined for an Anfield exit when the transfer window opened, with the Italian now telling the club he wants to stay and fight for his place.
The 27-year-old winger looked certain to return to Serie A following a disappointing debut season that yielded just 14 appearances and less than 500 minutes across all competitions.
However, Liverpool’s summer outgoings have completely altered the landscape, with the departures of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich and Darwin Núñez to Al-Hilal, plus the tragic loss of Diogo Jota, leaving significant gaps in the attacking ranks.
Chiesa’s crucial 88th-minute winner against Bournemouth proved to be the turning point.
The Italian came off the bench to volley home and secure a dramatic 4-2 victory in the Premier League opener.
The transformation hasn’t gone unnoticed by Arne Slot, who delivered glowing praise for Chiesa during Thursday’s pre-Newcastle press conference.
“I see a totally different Federico now than through large parts of last season,” the Dutch manager revealed.
“It’s completely normal because he missed out on the whole pre-season.”
“He’s in a much better place now, and as we all saw, when we needed a goal, I looked to the bench and had Chiesa as an option, and he delivered”
However, reports emerged this week that claimed that Bayern Munich had made an approach for Federico Chiesa.
Now Chief BILD reporter Christian Falk has cleared the air, and has asserted that the German giants had in fact not made contact:
“It’s not true that Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa is once again a topic of discussion at FC Bayern,” Christian Falk exclusively informed CaughtOffside in his Fact Files column.
“The 27-year-old Italian forward is contracted to Liverpool until the summer of 2028.”
“It should be stated clearly for the record that Bayern never held a serious interest in bringing the former Juventus star to Säbener Straße.”
“Either way, Chiesa has made it clear to the club that he wants to stay at Anfield.”
With Liverpool’s attacking options now severely depleted and the club struggling to secure Alexander Isak from Newcastle, it can only come as positive boost that Chiesa is committed to staying on Merseyside.
