The summer transfer window has brought intense speculation surrounding Luis Diaz, with the Liverpool winger becoming concrete targets for both Barcelona and Bayern Munich this month.
Both European giants have missed out on prior targets like Nico Williams (who signed a 10-year deal at Athletic Club last week) and has such the Colombian is now the next best option for the left-wing.
Bayern Munich have emerged as Barcelona’s biggest threat in the race for Diaz.
The German champions initially saw their approach rebuffed by Liverpool, but they haven’t given up.
Recent reports from German outlet BILD suggested that Diaz had agreed personal terms with Bayern
The 28-year-old, who netted 17 times and registered eight assists across all competitions last season, now finds himself entering the final two years of his Liverpool contract – with little indication from the club’s hierarchy that fresh terms are on the horizon.
Liverpool’s position on Diaz’s future has only muddied the waters further.
Even after playing a pivotal role in the Reds’ Premier League title-winning campaign, there’s been no move from the club to extend his deal beyond 2027.
As a result, Diaz remains in a somewhat awkward situation, earning a comparatively modest £140,000 per week – a figure that admittedly falls short for a player of his stature and influence.
Now the German outlet has revealed more on Bayern Munich’s attempts to land the former Porto man.
Following their Club World Cup campaign, Bayern Munich are preparing for what sporting director Max Eberl has described as a “trend-setting transfer window” that could determine his future at the record champions.
According to BILD, the Bavarian club has internally established a “pain threshold” of €60 million plus bonuses for the Colombian winger.
This figure represents Bayern’s maximum willingness to invest in the 27-year-old, despite his age potentially limiting future resale value.
The German champions view this substantial outlay as justified, prioritizing immediate team improvement over long-term asset appreciation.
Bayern’s pursuit has been conducted with notable sensitivity following the tragic death of Liverpool’s Diogo Jota in a traffic accident.
According to the report, the German club suspended all transfer talks out of respect following the incident, only resuming contact through intermediaries to confirm their continued interest.
The club has made it clear through Diaz’s representatives that they remain committed to securing his signature “at all costs,” despite the difficult circumstances surrounding Liverpool at present.
