Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has admitted he doesn't know whether Alexander Isak will return to training with the club in the next few days, throwing the striker's future into more doubt amid links with Liverpool.

Isak has of course been linked with a move to Anfield throughout the summer, with the Reds seeing a $146 million bid turned down on Friday.

Speaking after his side's 1-1 draw with Tottenham in pre-season, Howe admitted: “Of course I'd like him to be, but whether he will I don’t know at this moment in time.
