Arsenal ignored an obvious “red flag” with one of their high-profile transfer decisions this summer.
That is according to former England and Southampton star Matt Le Tissier, who told Football Insider exclusively that he was left “baffled” by the Gunners and that one of their signings was in his top three worst transfers of the summer.
Despite the obvious improvements during Mikel Arteta’s reign at the Emirates, Arsenal have very little to show for it by way of trophies.
The Spaniard has won one FA Cup during his time in charge of the Gunners and finished second in three consecutive seasons.
Last season, many of the North London side’s issues were caused by serious injuries to the likes of Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Jesus.
Arsenal responded by signing the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, and Martin Zubimendi, but they may have seriously overpaid for one of their summer purchases.

Arsenal signed Madueke from Chelsea in a deal worth £52million [Sky Sports] in a bid to improve their attacking depth.
However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Le Tissier warned that the Gunners may have made a mistake, as he had concerns as to why the Blues would let a player join a rival team.
Much like Newcastle’s £55m signing of Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest Le Tissier has major misgivings about the Madueke deal.
He said: “He’s very much in the Elanga-type bracket because he’s a good player, don’t get me wrong, and he’s got ability there, but I think £52m pounds for Noni Madueke, I think was also one that baffled me a little bit.

“From Arsenal’s point of view, the fact that Chelsea are willing to let him go to one of their perceived rivals.
“I would have though that would be a bit of a red flag from Arsenal’s point of view because they go, oh, why are they selling him to us?
They obviously don’t think he’s that good.
“So to get £52m for him was one that made me scratch my head a little bit.
“So yeah, a little bit baffled by that one.”
The transfers between London clubs may continue this summer, with West Ham considering making a move for Fabio Vieira.

However, with seemingly no place in Arteta’s plans, Arsenal will likely look to cash in on the midfielder this summer.
West Ham were battered 3-0 by Sunderland in their season opener and will search for reinforcements before the transfer window closes.
