Liverpool’s hopes of keeping Luis Diaz this summer may have been given a major boost, with Barcelona seemingly turning its attention elsewhere.

The winger has been linked with a move away from Anfield, with Diaz himself admitting he has spoken with other clubs as he weighs up his options.

The 28-year-old has two years remaining on his contract with the Reds, although he is still on the same deal he signed upon his arrival from Porto in January 2022.

Liverpool though currently has no plans to extend his contract, despite Diaz suggesting he would be discussing a new deal with the club this summer.

An approach from the La Liga champion was pushed back by Liverpool earlier this summer, with Barca’s sporting director Deco having confirmed the club’s interest in Diaz.

Now though, it appears Barcelona may be looking elsewhere, and may have already reached an agreement with an alternative.

According to Fabrizio Romano, a six-year-deal has been agreed with Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, with the Spanish international set for to earn around $9.1 million a year.

Financial terms are being worked upon as Barcelona looks to strike a deal with Athletic, but that could see the Catalan club end its interest in Diaz this summer.

Despite Barcelona seemingly moving on, Liverpool could yet receive more interest in Diaz, with a move to Saudi Arabia having also been touted.

The player himself has addressed his future, insisting he remains happy at Anfield, although he is keeping his options open.

"I’m very happy at Liverpool," Diaz said earlier this month while on international duty with Colombia

It’s up to them."

Liverpool.com says: Keeping hold of Diaz this summer does make sense for Liverpool, given he has been an important player for Arne Slot so far.

Even with Florian Wirtz arriving, and a new striker potentially still being targeted at some point, Diaz will still have an important role to play, even if Cody Gakpo has overtaken him as the first-choice left-winger.

Hopefully then Barcelona has firmly moved away from the Colombian, and interest from Saudi Arabia can be pushed back as well.
