Barcelona have reportedly identified another Premier League winger as an alternative to Luis Diaz.
The Spanish club’s interest in the Colombian is well reported and it appears to be renewed every summer.
Barcelona’s pursuit of Diaz stretches back to before his arrival at Liverpool.
Club president Joan Laporta confirmed that the Catalan side considered signing the winger during his time at Porto in 2021, but Liverpool’s ultimately won the race.
That missed opportunity has fueled ongoing speculation ever since.
However, Liverpool want to keep Diaz from Barca’s clutches and have entered contract talks with him.
Although Diaz has one year left on his current Liverpool deal he will not come cheap should Barca, or the several Saudi Arabia clubs interested in him want to sign him this summer.
With this in mind, Barcelona, whose financial struggles are well recorded are looking at alternatives to Diaz.
According to reports in Spain, the Catalan club have identified Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford as a player they could get instead of Diaz.
Rashford enjoyed a productive loan spell at Aston Villa in the second half of last season.
While he is back at Old Trafford, a summer move for him is highly likely.
Barca are touted as one of the destinations he could head and according to Spanish journalist Toni Juanmarti, his move could potentially end the Spanish club’s interest in Diaz.
The journalist claims that Barca are considering how they can get Rashford for cheap, given that Man United only want to sell.
“Barça is looking for ways to soften United (currently they only want a sale).
The Catalan club won’t pay a transfer fee for him (they would for Díaz),” the journalist wrote.
“One option would be a paid loan with an option to buy.
“It remains to be seen whether United will give in and how much FCB and Marcus Rashford push.”
