Marc Guiu’s debut goal for Sunderland came in vain after their Carabao Cup tie against Huddersfield Town.
Guiu‘s career has already been through something of a whirlwind despite the Spaniard only turning 19 in January, with a UEFA Conference League and Club World Cup title under his belt already at Chelsea.
Guiu earned comparisons to Diego Costa after Chelsea signed him from Barcelona last summer, but the striker made just three Premier League appearances despite being a regular in the Conference League.
After his six goals on Chelsea’s way to European glory, Sunderland won the race to sign Guiu on loan and confirmed his arrival on 6 August, to provide competition for Eliezer Mayenda and Wilson Isidor up front.

Mayenda and Isidor both opened their Premier League accounts for the Black Cats in their opening-day victory over West Ham, leaving Guiu third in the pecking order on Wearside after his arrival from Chelsea.
Given a first Sunderland start in their Carabao Cup second-round tie at home to Huddersfield Town, Guiu staked his own starting claims, scoring a towering header to equalise with six minutes left of normal time.
Guiu didn’t take a spot-kick in the resultant penalty shoot-out as the Black Cats lost 6-5 to their League One opponents, but the 19-year-old remained positive in a post on Instagram on Wednesday.

Football Insider Verdict
Sunderland haven’t been shy to spend big in this summer’s transfer window as they look to bridge the gap between the Premier League and the Championship play-offs, with almost £160million spent so far.
A further £50m and counting has been brought in with the sales of Tommy Watson, Jobe Bellingham and others, but big-name additions have also been made with Nordi Mukiele their most recent new arrival.
Reinforcements at both endsare expected with Bologna’s Jhon Lucumi still heavily linked, but with Guiu, Mayenda and Isidor off the mark already, Regis Le Bris may feel he already has what he needs up front.
