Barcelona director Deco spoke about Nico Williams, as the club have reportedly chosen him over Luis Diaz for the left-wing role.
The Spanish giants aim to sign a left winger this summer, shifting Raphinha to a number 10 role.
Although he isn’t a natural in that position, Raphinha delivered an outstanding season on the left flank under Hansi Flick, scoring 34 goals and providing 25 assists.
Barcelona began searching for a left winger last month, with Luis Diaz initially seen as the top candidate.
But now, Barcelona are reportedly close to signing Spanish talent Nico Williams, as per several sources.
Negotiations are ongoing with Athletic Club over how to activate and pay his £58m release clause.
In this context, Barcelona director Deco spoke to La Vanguardia about Nico Williams and his connection with young sensation Lamine Yamal.

Deco told La Vanguardia: “Yes, Nico Williams wants to come… and we will try!
Nico, like other players, is showing a strong desire to join… and if the right conditions are met, we’ll definitely try to complete the deal.”
He further added: “Nico’s name was already on the table last season — the idea of signing him has always been there.
His friendship [with Lamine Yamal] is a nice bonus, of course… but this isn’t a club for friends — we’re here to work and to win.”
Choosing Nico over Diaz makes sense, as the Spaniard is nearly six years younger than the Colombian.
As per the latest reports from BILD, Bayern Munich are now considering Luis Diaz.
The German champions had also targeted Nico previously, but now understand the Spanish winger’s intention to join the Catalan side.
