Sheffield Wednesday are set to witness further player exits this summer amid the continued financial chaos overseen by Dejphon Chansiri.
After being told that their wages will likely be paid late for a third consecutive month, Sheffield Wednesday players could boycott their Championship opener.
The Owls are set to take on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on 10 August, but the squad’s discontent continues to rise.
Thanks to Chansiri’s severe financial mismanagement, former boss Danny Rohl has left Hillsborough and has been replaced by his ex-assistant Henrik Pedersen.

Alongside Rohl’s departure, Sheffield Wednesday have also seen Josh Windass leave, while former colleagues Djeidi Gassama and Michael Smith joined Rangers and Preston, respectively.
But Barry Bannan’s potential exit would be a particularly painful one, as he has been a top servant for the South Yorkshire side since 2015.

According to the Sheffield Star [31 July], Bannan doesn’t want to leave Hillsborough, but has attracted interest from Championship rivals Middlesbrough and Millwall.

Even if Pedersen replaced Rohl in ordinary circumstances, the German would present himself as a tough act to follow in South Yorkshire.
Rohl is held in high regard by the Owls faithful thanks to the Championship survival exploits he oversaw in 2023/24, before guiding Wednesday to a comfortable midtable spot last term.
Pedersen is inheriting the 36-year-old’s former seat in the Hillsborough dugout in extremely trying circumstances, which could even see his players rightfully refuse to fulfill their second-tier fixtures.

Amid such a tough backdrop, the Dane would heavily benefit from the services of Bannan, who has stuck by Sheffield Wednesday through thick and thin for a decade.
Losing the Scot to either Millwall or Middlesbrough heaps further pressure on Pedersen, who is all but certain to face a gruelling relegation battle in South Yorkshire.
Contrastingly, Bannan has what it takes to help either the Lions or the North East side land a Championship playoff spot.
