Fernando Carro, the managing director of Bayer Leverkusen, admits he was "hurt" to see Florian Wirtz leave for Liverpool this summer.
But he says the new player departs Germany as a club legend.
Liverpool has signed Wirtz in a deal worth up to £116 million ($159 million) with add-ons.
He's become Liverpool's record signing and will smash the British record transfer fee, currently standing at £115 million, if those add-ons are fulfilled.
Carro revealed the Bundesliga team was desperate to keep Wirtz, who has explained how to pronounce his name, before being forced to enter into transfer talks once it became clear the player wanted to complete a dream move to the Premier League champion, Liverpool.
