Liverpool entered into the official transfer market on Sunday with the promise of doing plenty of business.

The potential incomings are especially exciting for Reds supporters, as their club aim to spend some serious money for the first time in a little while.

In that respect, Florian Wirtz is the man who has got Liverpool fans on the edge of their seats.

Liverpool are negotiating with Bayer Leverkusen for Wirtz as they aim to complete what would be the biggest deal in the club’s history.,

In order to offset the massive cost of the transfer, Liverpool are likely to make a number of sales over the coming months.

And as talks continue for Wirtz, the Reds looked to to help Leverkusen get a deal of their own over the line on Sunday.

Leverkusen are looking for a new goalkeeper this summer.

With suggestions that a swap deal could be on the cards with Liverpool, Caoimhin Kelleher had felt like a potential candidate here.

However, the Bundesliga side have pivoted to strike a deal for Brentford keeper Mark Flekken instead.

Give Flekken is Brentford’s first choice goalkeeper, they in turn will need a replacement.

And according to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, Kelleher is their pick.

“Brentford are in advanced talks with Liverpool for Caoimhin Kelleher – having agreed in principle to sell Mark Flekken to Bayer Leverkusen,” says Thomas.

“However, Flekken’s proposed transfer will not go ahead until the west London club have secured Kelleher as his replacement in goal.

“Leverkusen and Brentford have agreed a fee in the region of £11m (€13m) inclusive of add-ons for the Netherlands international keeper Flekken.

And Sky Germany are reporting Flekken is ready to undergo a medical with Leverkusen,” adds the journalist.

“Brentford have been facing competition from other clubs for Kelleher, including from Leeds and West Ham.”

Liverpool could do another little favour for Leverkusen here and ensure this deal is wrapped up quickly.

Given that Kelleher is quite clearly desperate for a move and Liverpool have his replacement already signed, there is no need for negotiations to drag on.

Nevertheless, the Reds will not be short-changed on Kelleher and will want to make sure they get an appropriate fee for the best back-up goalkeeper in the Premier League.

Liverpool previously put a £30m valuation on Kelleher, but with one year now left on his contract at Anfield, that seems unlikely to be met this summer.

According to The Athletic earlier this week, the Irishman is now priced at something closer to £20m.
